Two Big A Cappella Shows in the Northeast
-The Northampton (MA) Arts Council is hosting a college a cappella concert on February 3 as a fundraiser for arts in the area. The concert, called the Silver Chord Bowl,
is a yearly tradition and is part of a series of performing arts events the city puts on throughout February to fund grants for local artists who are working with schools and the community. The Bowl showcases some of the best college a cappella groups in the country, and this year will feature The Tufts Beelzebubs, Shades of Yale, NYU N'Harmonics, Berklee College of Music Pitch Slapped, The Northeastern Nor'easters, UConn Rubyfruit, and The Smith College Smithereens.
The event takes place Feb. 3 at John M. Greene Hall, Smith College, Northampton, MA. Tickets are $12 advance, $15 door.
-The M & T Bank Regional Glee Competition will be held on Saturday, April 13, in Carlisle, PA. There are still some openings for College A Cappella Groups in the all-female , all-male, 11 or fewer performers, and the mixed (male and female) categories. Registration ends soon. 1st through 3rd in each category receives medals. 1st in each category receives a trophy and competes in the Grand Championship sing-off where they will receive a Grand Championship trophy and $250 cash.
Last year's Grand Champion was Drexel University's 8 to the Bar. Groups last year included groups from PA, VA and MD. Open to all northeast region college a cappella groups but registration is limited in each category so please sign up soon. Email sherrie@carlisleunitedway.org for a registration form.
