News bits from the off season

Newsline

Greetings, readers! Here at The A Cappella Blog, we’re already hard at work, developing new content and features for our upcoming season, set to launch this winter.

In the meantime, though, we thought we’d share a couple bits of a cappella news from the summer.

A cappella condom jingle fights HIV: The BBC World Service Trust has released a ringtone of an a cappella jingle to help promote the use of condoms, to help combat the spread of HIV in India. The lyrics to the jingle? Condom—over and over again. You can listen to an NPR story on the jingle here  or go to the official site to listen to or download the ringtone here . Thanks to former ACB contributor Melissa for sharing this item.

ICCA Champions get story in Newsweek: Earlier this month, Newsweek published a piece by Daniel Payson-Lewis, a member of the ICCA Champion USC SoCal VoCals, telling the story of how he got involved with a cappella, and his journey with the group. Newsweek supplemented the article with two video pieces on professional a cappella, as well as a video of the VoCals performing. You can check it all out here. Credit goes to All My Friends Think They’re Instruments for bringing this story to light.
