ICCA National Wild Card Results--Divisi is Big Apple-Bound!

Newsline

This past Monday, Varsity Vocals publically announced that, for the first time ever, the organization would hold an International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) Wild Card Round. All second and third place ICCA semifinalists were invited to submit video entries, after which point a panel of Varsity Vocals adjudicators that included Deke Sharon evaluated each entry using the standard ICCA judging forms. The stated purpose of the Wild Card Round was to level the playing field between regions—if one region is more competitive than others, its runners up may be every bit as good as the winner from a less competitive region. This gives such groups an opportunity to show their stuff on collegiate a cappella’s biggest stage.

The groups that elected to participate were:
University of Oregon Divisi
The Washington University Stereotypes
The Rutgers University OrphanSporks
Rutgers University Casual Harmony
The Brown University Jabberwocks
Florida State University All-Night Yahtzee

At noon today, Varsity Vocals announced the results for overall placement:
1. University of Oregon Divisi
2. The Washington University Stereotypes
3. Florida State University All-Night Yahtzee

This means that Divisi will join The University of Georgia Accidentals, Northwestern University Purple Haze, Berklee College of Music Pitch Slapped, The University of Southern California SoCal VoCals, and The SUNY Buffalo Buffalo Chips in this year’s ICCA Finals. The show will happen Saturday, April 24 at Alice Tully hall in The Lincoln Center in New York City.
