Interviews

In honor of the 2017 ICCA tournament, The A Cappella Blog pursued short interviews with competing groups to develop insights into why and how groups approach competition, and to get appropriately excited for the tremendous shows ahead of us.

What’s your group name and on what date is your group’s quarterfinal?

In The Buff -- Quarterfinal on Jan. 28th at Utah Valley University.

How long has your group been around? Have you competed before?

The group is 23 years old this year, and we are excited to say that this is the first time we have ever competed in a collegiate a cappella competition! It's going to be a lot of fun! Can't wait to put ourselves out there!

Why are you competing this year? What does your group hope to accomplish or get out of the experience?

We are stoked to see how we compare against other a cappella groups around the country, meet some people from other groups and improve ourselves and our singing through learning from others. We are trying to make our group more well-known and active, and this is one (very exciting) way to begin that.

How is your group preparing for competition?

We are preparing by giving each other back massages, playing poker, and streaking around campus.

If you were to describe your group, or the set your group is planning for competition with just three words, what would they be?

Challenging, Emotional, Light-hearted.

You can learn more about In the Buff at their website and follow them on Facebook.
