Interviews
Key Harmony

In honor of the 2017 ICCA tournament, The A Cappella Blog pursued short interviews with competing groups to develop insights into why and how groups approach competition, and to get appropriately excited for the tremendous shows ahead of us.

What’s your group name and on what date is your group’s quarterfinal

KeyHarmony and our ICCA Quarterfinal is Saturday, February 25th

How long has your group been around? Have you competed before

KeyHarmony has been around since October of 2009. And yes we have competed before; this will be our 6th year.

Why are you competing this year? What does your group hope to accomplish or get out of the experience?

This year KeyHarmony decided to compete because it gives us the experience we need to become even better at what we do. We want to be the best versions of ourselves and this is a step in that process. As a group KeyHarmony hopes to leave a memorable impression on the audience and to leave the audience feeling what we are trying to get across through our performance. We want to be able to walk off the stage being satisfied and confident with what we left out there. We also look forward to getting feedback from professionals and meeting other groups during this competition.

How is your group preparing for competition?

This year KeyHarmony is having rehearsals three times a week for three hours.  In addition, we will be holding other rehearsals and lock-ins as the ICCA date approaches. We will also be planning teambuilding activities to build upon the trust and connection of the group while we prepare for ICCA.

If you were to describe your group, or the set your group is planning for competition with just three words, what would they be?

Three words that describe KeyHarmony are: exposed, powerful, and family.
