In honor of the 2017 ICCA tournament, The A Cappella Blog pursued short interviews with competing groups to develop insights into why and how groups approach competition, and to get appropriately excited for the tremendous shows ahead of us.
What’s your group name and on what date is your group’s quarterfinal?
The Suffolk Ramifications - Feburary 4th
How long has your group been around? Have you competed before?
The Rams have been around for about 16 years. The group has competed a few times in the past, most recently in the Spring of 2015.
Why are you competing this year? What does your group hope to accomplish or get out of the experience?
We are competing this year to show everyone what we have been working on in the past two years. ICCAS is something we have been looking forward to since last Spring, we want to share our passion for this group with everyone else. We have really excelled together as a group, we have a new sound and a real drive to get our name out there. We hope to place and move on in the competition, but more so we hope to gain more experience and bond even more as a group. We can't wait to perform and show everyone the arrangements we have been working on!
How is your group preparing for competition?
We have two students, Merin English and Lyndsay Bianco arranging two of our songs for our ICCA set and our music director Adam Levine will be arranging the third song. All three of them have been working tirelessly on creating and teaching their arrangments. We are so proud to have our arrangments be created by people in the group. We have been learning new music, adding extra rehearsals to our schedule, performing at outside gigs and bonding as a group more, so our sound will match/blend like how close we all are.
If you were to describe your group, or the set your group is planning for competition with just three words, what would they be?
Motivated, Inspired, Determined
