Rajaton
Amidst the a cappella scene within our own borders it's easy to lose sight of what's going on around the world. In International Spotlight we introduce readers to groups that are making noise (not to mention incredible music) in foreign lands.
Take three women, three men, and there you have Finland’s highest profile a cappella group—Rajaton. Since the group originally formed in 1997 their accomplishments have been many and quite varied—going platinum for their cover album Rajaton Sings ABBA and winning a Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award for Best Folk Song for “Nouse Lauluni,” earlier this year releasing a children’s album, and, perhaps most impressively of all, going a long toward mainstream success by successfully spanning classical and contemporary musical tastes within their Finnish audience and abroad.
