Friday Factoid

On selected Fridays, The A Cappella Blog publishes a fact, statistic or piece of history from collegiate a cappella. We welcome readers to share their own bits of uncommon knowledge, or to pose questions if there's a Friday Factoid they'd like to see.

The first co-ed, or mixed, collegiate a cappella group was assembled in 1973 at Princeton University. The group, called The Katzenjammers, were founded by Peter Urqhart and Mimi Danly, the then-directors of The Nassoons and Tigerlilies, Princeton’s oldest all-male and all-female groups, respectively.

The Katzenjammers continue on, through today, performing, recording and pleasing fans over and over again with their fine musical stylings.
