Step Brothers
At the Movies
A cappella has made its mark all over the movie world across the years. In At the Movies we spotlight highlights and lowlights from the musical form we love in motion pictures.
This time, we spotlight Step Brothers.
Although Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are the stars of this slapstick comedy, it’s Adam Scott who steals the show with this iconic, family-sized serving of a cappella. What may be coolest about this scene is the way in which the film reclaims the douchebag stereotype that can surround a cappella. Sure, some a cappella folks are jerky, and this scene refuses to fight that image, embracing it instead, and sending it so far over the top that it produces arguably the funniest moment of the film.
