The Midnight Ramblers Scholarship
For the uninitiated, it can be difficult to understand why people love a cappella. Heck, even for those of us who do actively enjoy it, it can be difficult to put into words why we enjoy this art form so. While we’ll never have a truly comprehensive list of everything cool about a cappella, 200 Reasons to Love A Cappella is our best attempt at assembling a list of what makes it great.
Reason #70: The Midnight Ramblers Scholarship
One of the coolest aspects of collegiate a cappella is the inclination for so many groups to give back to their school or local communities. Fewer groups go so far as to think about future generations of students at their school, and you’ll be hard pressed to find any that partner with their to develop an annual scholarship for incoming first-year students.
That’s exactly what The University of Rochester Midnight Ramblers did, though, in establishing The Midnight Ramblers Scholarship to award $5,000 to an incoming freshman each year who demonstrates “an appreciation and passion for music innovation.” The establishment of this award has helped cement The Ramblers’ place as a part of the very fabric of their school, not to mention giving a wonderful opportunity to one like-minded incoming student each year.
I love it!
