The Casual Harmony Slide
For the uninitiated, it can be difficult to understand why people love a cappella. Heck, even for those of us who do actively enjoy it, it can be difficult to put into words why we enjoy this art form so. While we’ll never have a truly comprehensive list of everything cool about a cappella, 200 Reasons to Love A Cappella is our best attempt at assembling a list of what makes it great.
Reason #2: The Casual Harmony Slide
The origins of this move have been the subject of much debate, but arrived in my consciousness, and that of many others via Rutgers University’s Casual Harmony, so we’ll let them take credit. Debuting in their rendition of Muse’s “Time Is Running Out,” this move is all about power and pinache—a silky smooth, visually spectacular move that the guys busted out in the middle of a much rougher song to demonstrate that physically working the stage is so second nature to them that they can pull this off without batting an eye, missing a beat, or taking a single thing away from the music.
