The A Cappella Bop
For the uninitiated, it can be difficult to understand why people love a cappella. Heck, even for those of us who do actively enjoy it, it can be difficult to put into words why we enjoy this art form so. While we’ll never have a truly comprehensive list of everything cool about a cappella, 200 Reasons to Love A Cappella is our best attempt at assembling a list of what makes it great.
Reason #93: The A Cappella Bop
The a cappella bop—a repetitive bend at the knees, usually (and hopefully) to the beat of the music, sometimes from side to side, is the both the signature and the default dance move for a cappella performers. Since groups became (self-)conscious of the phenomenon, some have seemed to purposefully step away from it in favor of prioritizing blocking over movement, or more intricately choreographing the duration of their songs. And yet, for many, if not most groups, the bop persists, used either obliviously or with a very intentional sense of a cappella pride.
I love it!
