SingStrong
For the uninitiated, it can be difficult to understand why people love a cappella. Heck, even for those of us who do actively enjoy it, it can be difficult to put into words why we enjoy this art form so. While we’ll never have a truly comprehensive list of everything cool about a cappella, 200 Reasons to Love A Cappella is our best attempt at assembling a list of what makes it great.
Reason #84: SingStrong
In reason #83, we discussed SoJam, the preeminent a cappella festival today. But what if you took some of that community culture, moved it up the coast, broadened it to welcome more a cappella folks barbershop and choir roots, and, you know, raised thousands of dollars each year for Alzheimer’s care, support and research? Then, my friends, you’d have a little weekend I like to call SingStrong.
The event has seen epic performances from the likes of Pentatonix, Afro Blue, Blue Jupiter, Ball in the House and many more; it’s the site of a competition that, in 2012, served as a national coming out party for all-female juggernaut GQ.
Under the leadership of Jonathan Minkoff and co. SingStrong has become one of the biggest feel good weekends on the a cappella calendar.
I love it!
