For the uninitiated, it can be difficult to understand why people love a cappella. Heck, even for those of us who do actively enjoy it, it can be difficult to put into words why we enjoy this art form so. While we’ll never have a truly comprehensive list of everything cool about a cappella, 200 Reasons to Love A Cappella is our best attempt at assembling a list of what makes it great.
Reason #29: Punny Group Names
If you’re a regular reader of this blog, it’s probably no surprise to you that I enjoy a good pun.
A cappella groups seem to share this love, and I suppose that, too, should also be expected. After all, a cappella is all about being willing to laugh at yourself, doing things like synthesizing a guitar with your mouth, and choreographing a dubstep breakdown to your favorite song--things that are, by most objective standards, are pretty irreverent. Punny group names only add to the fun, contributing to group's identity as clever, witty, and fun . From Fermata Nowhere, to The Crescendudes, to the Harvard Law Scales of Justice, it’s all great stuff.
