Guys Who Are Human Drumkits
For the uninitiated, it can be difficult to understand why people love a cappella. Heck, even for those of us who do actively enjoy it, it can be difficult to put into words why we enjoy this art form so. While we’ll never have a truly comprehensive list of everything cool about a cappella, 200 Reasons to Love A Cappella is our best attempt at assembling a list of what makes it great.
Reason #11: Guys Who Are Human Drumkits
OK, so these days just about every contemporary group has vocal percussion going on. The quality still varies, though, from people who can only lay the most basic beats, to those who can keep the beat at any pace and can channel a range of percussive instruments with their mouths. And then there are the human drumkits.
Most of us have probably seen this at least once. I’m talking about the guys who make you forge there’s no actual drumkit on stage; the guys who can give you a drum solo, and it’s not the least bit lame—in fact, it’s probably just as, if not more exciting than the rest of what was happening on stage. This level of expertise is, indeed, rare, but is nothing if not memorable when you catch it live.
I love it!
