NFL a cappella group, NBC series update, an unlikely attack, and a cappella at a Red Sox game

Newsline

The A Cappella Blog will return to regular posting in January. The 2010 season will include a number of new features that are currently in the works. In the meantime, a few bits of news:

-The Miami Dolphins NFL football team organization is starting an a cappella group known as the Miami Voices to sing the national anthem at all 2009-2010 home games. The group started auditions last week. More information is available here, here and here.

-While we’re on the topic of auditions, NBC’s upcoming a cappella competition series, The Sing Off, is holding auditions for a cappella groups in mid-September. Much more information is available here.

-Martha’s Vineyard was the site of an unlikely a cappella attack. You can read more about it, and see a video of the incident here. Thanks to Mickey Rapkin’s Pitch Perfect blog for bringing up this story.

-Speaking of Rapkin, a group that earned a fair bit of attention in his book, Hyannis Sound, a Cape Cod a cappella squad, sang the national anthem in honor of late US Senator Edward Kennedy at a Boston Red Sox game last week. USA Today covered the story.
