Interviews

In honor of the 2017 ICCA tournament, The A Cappella Blog pursued short interviews with competing groups to develop insights into why and how groups approach competition, and to get appropriately excited for the tremendous shows ahead of us.

What’s your group name and on what date is your group’s quarterfinal?

Semi-Toned, 5th of February.

How long has your group been around? Have you competed before?

The group was formed in 2010 and has competed twice before.

Why are you competing this year? What does your group hope to accomplish or get out of the experience?

The last two times we have entered the competition, the group has come in 2nd place at the UK semifinals. This year we are aiming to get that 1st place spot that we have come so close to before. Competing in the ICCA is such a great experience, getting a small number of songs to a really high standard, performing them to a large audience, and then watching the other competitors produce outstandingly high quality a cappella. Its an opportunity not to be missed!

How is your group preparing for competition?

Rehearsals are underway as usual and closer to the quarter final, we will ramp them up so that we are practicing everyday. Lots of people within the group are arranging songs for our set, so it will be a process in itself just picking which songs we will use in the final set!

If you were to describe your group, or the set your group is planning for competition with just three words, what would they be?

Our set will be entertaining, diverse and unique.
