Interviews

In honor of the 2017 ICCA tournament, The A Cappella Blog pursued short interviews with competing groups to develop insights into why and how groups approach competition, and to get appropriately excited for the tremendous shows ahead of us.

What’s your group name and on what date is your group’s quarterfinal?

Sweet Nothings – 5th February in Exeter

How long has your group been around? Have you competed before?

This is actually the group’s 10-year anniversary and we’re still in contact with old members who love to hear what we’re up to. This will be the third year of the group entering the ICCAs, which is a competition we love, especially because we get to hear so many other great University groups sing.

Why are you competing this year? What does your group hope to accomplish or get out of the experience?

We think it’s a great way to push ourselves to be the best that we can be. In a competition scenario, everyone works that extra bit harder as they want to win! We’d love to come away proud of our performance and maybe even a place in the semi-final!

How is your group preparing for competition?

On an average week we have 3 rehearsals a week together, however this will step up towards the competition. We have singing, choreography and microphone technique rehearsals and even rehearsed at 7am last year!

If you were to describe your group, or the set your group is planning for competition with just three words, what would they be?

Sensational, Surprising, Sassy
